Tara Oram

A daughter of Newfoundland, Tara lives in Toronto while her heart is in the country. Tara came in 6th in the 2007 Canadian Idol competition, which served to whet her appetite further for that top rung of stardom. In her own words “I’M ON A MISSION!!!”

I’m 23 years old and I’ve been singing professionally for many years.  It all started for me when I was 2 or so in my hometown church.  Ever since, I have continued to indulge in my passion for music.

I was born in Gander, NFLD and I moved around a lot as a kid.  We first moved to Malton, ON when I was 10 or so and then to Brampton, ON, where I attended high school at Bramalea Secondary School.

In my school years, I always participated in the Choir.  I credit my music teachers Mrs. Joy Cookson (William Mercer Academy), Mr. Tanny Gibson (Dunrankin Elementary School) and Mr. Chris Arthurs (Bramalea Secondary School) for giving me the discipline and knowledge of what it takes to be successful in the business and the joy of Music itself.

At 16, I signed to an Indie Label and released my first country music single.  I toured with a local agency called Performerz which allowed me to sing in theatres, malls and festivals.

At 19, I joined my very first band.  We played the bar/club circuit around Ontario for four years playing a mix of country, top 40, rock, R’n B and retro.

A Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Tara plays ball hockey and would love to meet Dwight Yoakam. She spends her time writing songs, learning guitar and interior decorating with her mom.

Recently Tara made a road trip to Nashville to see first hand the town that symbolises her deepest ambition. "The song title that best describes me would be 'Up!' by Shania Twain," she says. "Whenever things are not going the way I want them to, I always remember to laugh about it. There are too many people in this world who have to live in horrible situations. I appreciate my life everyday."

Tara believes in living her dreams and her quest for the ultimate dream continues.
